New rules for employment contracts

The new rules have are introduced as a consequence of a new EU directive and will come into force on 1 July 2023

Specifically, the new rules mean that:

  1. All staff who work more than three hours or more per week on average for four consecutive weeks have the right to an employment contract. The new rules are stricter than the rules currently in place, according to which only staff members who are employed for longer than one month and who work more than eight hours per week have the right to an employment contract.
  2. New staff members have the right to receive their employment contract no later than seven days after they start work. Previously, the deadline was four weeks. The new deadline also applies to changes in employment conditions for existing staff members.

The objective of the amendment is to create transparent and predictable working conditions across the EU.
